Lovina Beach is a laid back 12 km stretch of coast to the West of Singaraja in North Bali. It is a welcome break from the bustle of the South. These days the mix of tourists is mainly families and couples rather than the backpackers of yesteryear. It is comprised of several narrow stretches of black volcanic sand. Lovina, like most of Bali, fills up with tourists from all over the world in August and Australians at Christmas.

The Puri Mandhara is a few steps from the Anturan beach. Avoid the unsightly rooms with shared bathroom. The other rooms are nice and spacious, with bath and hot water. Each room has its own outdoor veranda. If you are good at bargaining, you take the room at a good price
The garden around the rooms is very nice and the staff is very courteous.

Located 110m from the beach and 450m from the centre of Kalibukbuk. Taman Lily's has nice rooms from 200,000 IDR to 400,000 IDR per night, but cheaper are rates available for week or month long stays. This hotel has no pool, but there are many hotels nearby where the use of the pool and facilities (gym, lounge chair, umbrella, towels) cost a Euro or so per person per day and there is also the beach! This would make a good base for longer stays on a budget. Their website has a section on long stays and they will also arrange the 6 month visa for a small fee.
